Scared! Scorpion in library of IIT Madras

Time : 10.45pm (IST) (3 July 2018)

Location: 2nd-floor study chamber, Library, IIT Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

This was the scariest moment of this year.
I was busy updating a test case for my project on the laptop.
Then, I relaxed and moved a little back on my chair to sit comfortably.

Suddenly, saw a big scorpion (at least 30 cm in length). I couldn't take the picture of it, was in a hurry to alert everyone. It looked exactly like the one in the picture but was of brownish-white colour.

Would you say I was lucky to be sitting at the corner of my row?

1. High chances to see and make the distance.
2. If not 1, then I will be the first person to get bitten and then.. god knows what can happen!

What was my next step?

I alerted all the students near me to make the distance. Then I went down to call the security guard.
The security guard took a wooden stick ("Laathi" in Hindi) and talked with the library assistant.

Then after 5 minutes, I came with all the authority to the 2nd floor.
The scorpion was already murdered by one of the library assistants.

This short yet "deep and scary" incident makes me think :::

1. How can a scorpion come to the 2nd floor of a library?

2. It got murdered because I alerted everyone. Was there a possibility to save the life of scorpion
and alert everyone?

3. What possible measures can be taken to avoid these incidents?

PS: Yesterday night, it rained heavily.

PS: IIT Madras is highly rich in flora and fauna. Even a national park overlaps with campus area.

What did I learn?

The distance function between life and death depends on many parameters, and in these, some parameters are of high privilege (like scorpion bite! )
You don't know what can happen with your life!
Better to live the present moment at the best and take best precautions wherever possible!

What I need to know?

Grey Water Treatment of Washing Machine at household level

A sustainable approach for the treatment of greywater produced by the washing machine   Problem Statement Title: A sustainable approach for the treatment of greywater produced by the washing machine. 1.Can the grey water be recycled for purpose of washing clothes again? If yes, what treatment technology is suitable in terms of economic feasibility and size? 2. How many times can the treated water be reused? 3. What combination of technologies can be used to achieve the aim? Abstract On a weekly basis, each household generates 1000L of greywater from washing machines. This report presents cheap, effective and scalable methodology to treat greywater produced bywashing machines, which constitutes of various pollutants like oil, sand, surfactants, organicmatter, heavy metals etc. The results showed that the COD , turbidity, TSS values greatly decrease by using the proposed treatment process, which consists of 4 stages: CFF system(coagulation-flocculation-floatation), sand f...
